Here at The Lakes we're all about loving God, growing together, and serving all, because life isn't simple. Because of that, if you choose to visit our church, we want you to feel comfortable, and some of that means knowing what to expect. Here are ten questions that should give you a good idea of what happens around here.
Where should I park?
Our parking lot wraps around our building and we have two entrances. If you have kids, we suggest parking near the family entrance which is facing the road. If you don't have kids, or need a handicap accessible entrance, we suggest you park around the building by our main entrance.
What should I wear?
At The Lakes we don't have a dress code. We just hope that you come in what you're comfortable in. You'll see our regular attenders in anything from shorts to jeans to slacks. Wear what fits you!
What happens when I arrive?
When you walk in the doors you will be welcomed by one of our friendly greeters who will hand you our bulletin for the week. you can ask the greeter any of your questions and they will be able to direct you to where you need to go. You are welcomed and encouraged to come to our café area where you can grab a donut, cup of coffee, or a few snacks. Feel free to sit at the café until service starts, or find a seat in the sanctuary.
How will I know where to go?
Our foyer is pretty straightforward and wide open, with signs by the café, welcome center, and connections corner. If you need directions anywhere else there are signs above most doorways, or you can ask one of the greeters.
What about my kids?
As you walk into the family entrance with your kids, you will be prompted to go through the check in process. You have the option of letting your kids go to our age appropriate classrooms with messages geared towards their age group, or your kids can stay with you in the service if you want. For more information on the check in process and children's ministry in general, click here.
What about my teens?
Teenagers are highly encouraged to sit with their families during service times. If you choose to come during first service, the youth have a Sunday morning life group that meets in the youth room upstairs off the gym. As always, teenagers are not required to go to this, but it is encouraged.
What will the service be like?
We have two service times at 9:30 am and 11:00 am. The 9:30 service will include some new songs as well as some that have been around for quite some time now. The 11:00 service features contemporary style worship music. These services will last about an hour and during them we will sing some songs together, hear about upcoming events at The Lakes, and hear a message from the Bible. During the 11:00 service there will be a time that our children's pastor Holly will invite the kids to come up for a short lesson, where they will then be dismissed to go to their classes.
Will I be singled out as a visitor?
As a visitor, our goal is to welcome you and show you that this is a community that operates through love. You may find that some of our members would love to meet you and welcome you here. Knowing that some visitors don't want to be singled out, asked questions, or pursued, we won't ask anything of our visitors. The only thing you will be asked to do is fill out the welcome card that is attached to the bulletin that you got when you walked in the door, and of course, that is only if you want to. If you do, you can bring it to the welcome center after the service where we will have a gift waiting for you, or just drop it in the offering plate as it is passed around.
Am I expected to participate in offering?
NO. Visitors and guests are never expected to give an offering, but if you want to give to the ministries of the church, feel free to do so.
